The first and only VP debate for this election season happened this past Thursday at Washington University in St. Louis. Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin went head to head for the first time, both trying to convince the American public why they should vote for their running mates Barack Obama and John McCain.
Palin "is a nice person, an interesting person but not a qualified-to-be-the-president-of-the-United-States person."
--Washington power lawyer Robert Barnett
Seventy million people tuned in to see, some would say how Sarah Palin would come back from the Katie Couric interviews. Well, she came back, she stood her own, but she still fell short. They said that she won hearts, while Biden won points, but I don’t think that’s what this debate was about , it was clearly for helping the American people decided, there are still undecided voters 33 days from the election.
Palin was prepped for three days by McCain aides, in my opinion if you need to prep someone that much, shouldn't that tell you something? I am in no way saying Obama or Biden were not prep, but at least they could stand on there own any time, any place and answer a question on foreign policy or Iran and nuclear weapons. Not deviating from it or giving unspecific answers to them.
On several occasions, Palin gave nonspecific, generic, moved away from the question type answers, or in some instance basically ignored it.
Her answer to “which is a greater threat, a nuclear Pakistan or a nuclear Iran”, she seemed to be stalling, writing God knows what down, finally answering “An armed, nuclear armed especially Iran is so extremely dangerous to consider.” Biden on the other hand attacked it with a sense of reality “Iran getting a nuclear weapon would be very, very destabilizing. They are more than — they are not close to getting a nuclear weapon that's able to be deployed.”
They both did well; Palin surprised the nation, while Biden kept his cool. However he did not back down when it came time to correcting her, he was clearly the winner in “Biden vs. Palin. She, however, was the winner in “Palin vs. Palin.
