90th Birthday Celebration for an Icon

Saturday, July 5, 2008

This year, an Icon turns 90; a concert in his honor was held this past week at Hyde Park in London. Nelson Mandela was paid tribute in a four hour concert, where Grammy award artists and Oscar Winning Actors all came out to celebrate in their eyes and most of the world’s a man who in plain words will always be a “World Icon”.

Mandela’ Birthday concert was sponsored by 46664 charity, an HIV/AIDS awareness organization launched five years ago by Mandela, whose son died of AIDS in 2005. The name of this charity four, triple six, four is after Mandela’s prison number at Robben Island in South Africa, where he was jailed in 1964 for 27 years for leading the liberation movement against apartheid.

This event was hosted by Will Smith, a four hour tribute that included 30 of the world’s leading artist, including Leona Lewis and Josh Groban, as well as longtime legends Annie Lenox, Joan Baez and Queen.

Mandela by far is one of the most influential people that will ever grace our presence this life time. He is the one person I think, who can inspire us to do something we might not be confident about doing. His words are chilling, his story is remarkable, and his life is an iconic one that only so very few people can say they lived.

Nelson Mandela will turn 90 on July 18th 2008.
