Obama: Eight years is Enough

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Thursday--Senator Barack Obama accepted the nomination for the presidency of the United States, making him the first African-American to get a major party nomination.

“With profound gratitude and great humility, I accept your nomination for presidency of the United States.”
--Senator Barack Obama

His speech attacked John McCain and George Bush and laid out his plans for change and unity he also spoke of bringing back the American dream that so many people come to this country for. He spoke of his mother and grandmother and the lesson they taught him while growing up and about Iraq and the war we have been fighting. He mentioned, that Iraq has a surplus, while we are facing a deficit and John McCain has voted with George Bush 90 percent of the time, eight years is enough (new slogan, I believe so).

Thursday at Mile High Stadium, it was a historic night on a historic day, as Obama delivered his acceptance speech on the 45th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream speech”. Although it was no “I have a dream”, it was quite inspiring for the new generation, who are ready for change.

Obama's speech ended with the song "Only in America" by country duo Brooks & Dunn -- who performed it for the inauguration of George W. Bush in 2001 and the Republican National Convention in 2004.
