Secret Service, Where are you?

As the days of his presidency come to a close, President Bush is being attacked, by shoes, yes I said shoes. An angry Iraqi decided during a press conference with Iraqi President Nori Al Maliki that he had had it with Bush and his tactics, so he decided to take things into his own hands. Honestly it was rather funny. I have been alive for 24 years and I don’t think I have ever lived through something this funny with a political figure, not to mention the President of the free world.

But in all of this where were the men who were all hired to protect him, if those shoes were bullets, then we would have dead President. The time between both shoes was about 3 to 4 seconds. After the first shoe, the secret services didn’t come to his aid, they waited until the reporter was out of shoes to tackle him and secure the President. Regardless of if you like Bush or not, he is still someone’s father, husband, son, uncle, and brother.

So what does this say about the secret service, their training, and Obama’s Presidency? Remember while Obama was campaigning, there were two men who wanted him dead and went as far as going through with it, however they were caught. Obama has a lot of things against him, and regardless of if we want to see it or not, he is the first African American president and although we have progressed as a society, there are still people in this country who are racist; there are still KKKs out there. So will the secret service step up, after this Bush episode? Only time will tell, as Obama takes office in January.
