Hillary Clinton sworn in as secretary of state

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

She is no longer Senator Clinton, but rather Madame Secretary. Hillary Clinton, today was sworn in as the 67th Secretary of State after she was nominated by vote 94-2.

Clinton was the first female to run for the office of President, also the “first” first lady to seek a senate seat after her husband Former. President Clinton’s two term presidency. Madame Secretary was supposed to be sworn in before the inauguration yesterday; however her confirmation was opposed by two of her fellow senators, Senators Jim DeMint, republican of South Carolina, and David Vitter, republican of Louisiana. Both Senators stating that her husband’s connections with the Middle East and all contributions given to his foundation are a huge conflict on interest. Most of the contributions used in the Clinton Foundation comes from prominent families of the Middle East. All contributions given to the Clinton Foundation must go through a series of clearance after today.

Senator Clinton after her swearing in sent letters of resignation to Vice-President Joe Biden, who serves as the President of the Senate. Secretary of the Senate Nancy Erickson and New York Gov. David Paterson
