You, Me and Ramadan

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

NOTE: Only an excerpt from each profile is presented in this post.

When I decided to do this questioner on Ramadan, I didn’t really envision many knowing exactly what this religious time was about. I do believe that a majority of non-Muslims are aware and educated on “Muslims and Islam”. Although I may believe that, I am still very much convinced that a lot of that education and desire came about after September 11th. I am aware of the fact that my assumption is a stereotype and I may offend some because of it, but I am positive that prior to September 11th, people in the United States knew very little or none of Islam, but I think that 9/11 raised an uncanny awareness for the American people; in terms of learning about Muslims and Islam.

Muslim Holy Month Begins

Monday, August 1, 2011

Early this morning, my father walked down the halls to the kitchen and had himself  an extra early breakfast. He then venture back to his pray room and began the holy month. Just like him (and my brother) about 1.8 billion worldwide will also do the same and begin preparing to host their yearly guest-- Ramadan. It is the holiest month's in a Muslim's life and it's to focus on spirituality, praying more often and with holding any acts of violence during the fast. All Muslims across the world are expected to participate, with the exception of the elderly, sick and pregnant.

Children of the Revolution

They are the littlest revolutionist you’ll see in the wake of the uprisings in the Mideast and Africa, but don’t underestimate these little people, because they too are hoping and wanting change. However the question still remains are they too young to be a part of such a violent revolution? Or could their presence bring about some ground breaking change?

The Banning of the Full Muslim Veil

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Back in September of 2010, The French Senate voted for a bill banning the burka/nijab-style Islamic veil everywhere and this April it will go into full effect.  Muslim women are not by any means happy about this and some are even threatening to defy the French Law.

Ramadan 2010: From Across The World

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

It is the holiest month in a Muslim's life. Ramadan or the Fast of Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation.

Along with not eating and drinking in the light hours--smoking and sexual relations and consuming alcohol are also forbidden during fasting.

This year, Ramadan will continue until Thursday, September 9th.

Sept.11 2010: International Burn Qur’an Day

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

I can't imagine what God is thinking right now, with all that is going on this this world. The discrimination, poverty, hunger, war--is his message in any religion not to LOVE, HONOR, RESPECT and FORGIVE? Where do we as humans get the right to condemn and ridicule another human being, their religion or faith or morals? Honestly, where? I am  sure if is not from God.

I went to the University of Flordia and I will bleed orange and blue till the day I die. But for the first time in my adult life, I am ashamed to say I spent a good chunk of my life in Gainesville.  Today I kept reading every one's version of what this church is Gainesville is planning on doing and I can't even begin to understand where their logic is coming from. Dove World Outreach Center is a non-denominational evangelical church and it is hosting "International Burn Qur'an Day".
