First up, are the Democrats and they will be nominating first time ever an African American and first time Senator Barrack Obama. Then in early September, the GOP will nominate War Veteran John McCain.
So what exactly is the Convention? Well honestly, it’s just a big ol’ party with speeches and celebrity politicians and wannbe politicians and then the nominees will grace our presence on the last night.

The Convention is just a ceremonial way of officially nominating the candidate that won the primaries.
Step 1:
The name of the presidential candidate is placed into nomination by one or more speeches at the convention. Those nominations are then seconded with more speeches.
Step 2:
A roll call is usually held on the third day of the convention.
Each state’s delegation, seated in the building, announces how many votes they are cashing for each the candidate. The announcement is made in alphabetical order by each state, and the out come is no surprising following months or primaries and caucuses.
The convention can skip the roll call and choose the nominee through a voice vote (acclamation), but this happened only three times in the past 100 years.
Step 3: Vice Presidential Nomination
The name of the vice-presidential candidate is placed into nomination by speeches, just like the name of the presidential candidate.
But a voice is traditionally used here to avoid another lengthy roll call vote.
Step 4: Acceptance
The presidential nominee addresses the convention on the final night and accepts the nomination.
The vice presidential nominee addresses the convention before the presidential nominee either the same night or the previous night.
