Ivesco Field Tonight

Thursday, August 28, 2008

The Democratic National Convention will end tonight as first time nominee, Barack Obama will deliver his acceptance speech to a crowd of about 75,000 at Ivesco Field.

It comes on the night of the 45th anniversary, when a young African American stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and gave the speech of his life, the speech that would be remembered decades later. "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech.

Obama has some big shoes to fill tonight, with his “Change, you can believe in” speech. It will never be the “I have a dream”, but it can sure come damn close. Martin Luther King’s dream of one day whites and blacks can sit at the same table is partially coming true. Obama was nominated by acclimation last night, as Senator Hillary Clinton stopped the roll call and asked the delegates to nominate Senator Obama.

Obama is the first African American to have a major party nomination and set to run a campaign for the white house.

Tonight at Ivesco Field history will be made. 10 p.m ET
