Urban Meyer Steps Down

On Saturday afternoon, Athletics Director for the University of Florida announced that Urban Meyer, head coach of the Florida Gators Football team will be resigning, due to health reason. The Sugar Bowl will be Meyer’s last game as UF’s head coach against Cincinnati on January 1st in New Orleans, La. It will also be Tim Tebow’s last game as Florida Gator.
“I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program,” said Meyer. “I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family.”

Meyer came to The University of Florida in 2005, after have a 16 game winning streak in Salt Lake. Upon arriving at UF he won 4 consecutive games, giving him a winning streak of 20 consecutive games.
He gave UF two BCS Championship (2006,2008) two Southeastern Conference Championships (2006 and 2008), three SEC Eastern Division crowns (2006, 2008 and 2009) and led UF to five straight January bowl games.
In the nation, he is the only coach to hold two BCS Championships and also the only coach in history of the SEC to win two National Championships. In the 5 years he has been at UF his records stands 56-10, which includes a 22 game winning streak for the school.

He was recently named Sporting News and Sports Illustrated “Coach of the Decade.”
