Someone once said that the worst day after loosing an election was the day after, when the phone calls stopped and no one cares about you anymore, you are not the story, you are old news. John McCain is going through that today. But what made this Maverick loose this election? There were several things, from making jokes of bombing Iraq to choosing the wrong running mate.
MAC was being over powered by Iraq instead of being a Maverick; stating that we were winning in Iraq. A hug hit to his campaign was the endorsement from President Bush. America did not want anything to do with Bush, after he left. But all they saw was another Bush coming into power, and although he tried to distance himself from the President after the endorsement, the fact that he voted with President Bush over 90% of the time, made his campaign weaker by the day. Another reason was his Vice-Presidential pick Sarah Palin, it was said she was brought on to steal the Hillary Clinton votes, but it didn’t work out that way, as she was subjected to late night laughs, and the mainstream media ripped her a part, having the republican party question MAC’s choice, some even wanting her out. To those republican’s, she was going to cost the election and some will still say, she did. But one of MAC’s biggest mistakes was running on an agent of looking back, not to the Ronald Regan tradition, but something else. He claimed he was running on an agent of change, but the American people did not see that, all they saw was the same party, same ideas, and a different figure head.
The GOP at some point left that traditions of Ronald Regan and moved into something new, something that hurt them and it cost them the 2008 election.
