'Baby Doc' Back and Charged

I wonder if the former dictator of Haiti regrets his decision boarding that Air France plane on Sunday bound for his homeland. My assumption is most likely--YES!

On Sunday, the former teen dictator stepped on the grounds of Haiti, after 25 years of exile. His arrival was a surprise to everyone, although he was greeted with cheers from some 2,000 Haitians. Dressed sharply, the aged Jean Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier was escorted by his Jackie-O inspired companion Véronique Roy, the granddaughter of a former Haitian President. The question still remains, why is he back? What is his agenda? and is he really hurting for a country he helped sent to the ruins?

HAITI: A Year Later

More than 230,000 were killed and 1 million left homeless when a 7.0 quake struck Haiti last January. I am positive when I say most of the world's heart went out to the small island and it's people. Images, pleads and cries for help are still embedded in much of our minds and although the world may have moved on and sadly forgotten about Haiti, there are still thousands and thousands of Haitians who pray  that their tragedy on that January day has not been forgotten by the world.

The rumors have been swirling for the past couple of months--that Haitian born singer Wyclef Jean would run for the President of Haiti. Yesterday, that rumor was confirmed, the R&B singer will run and against a family member. He is set to make the official announcement tonight from Haiti.

HAITI:Bush Wipes Hand on Clinton

I'm not sure if George Bush is a germaphobe or he just doesn't like the Hiaitian people. But in this video released yesterday, Bush was caught on camera shaking the hand of a Hiatian man and only a few second later wiping it on Bill Clinton's shoulder.

Elephants Help Haiti

It's not just only humans helping in Operation Haiti relief anymore, but animals and some pretty huge ons at it. It's called "Jumbo Effort for Haiti".

In Thailand, three elephants are not just looking to collect peanuts from locals and tourist; but money to help the Caribbean island of Haiti. Two weeks ago Haiti was hit my a massive 7.0 earthquake, that destroyed the capital of Port-au-Prince.

This event or unusual idea was a Red Cross fundraiser. Thailand has already ready sent 20 tons of rice and pledged $120,000.

"Hope For Haiti" Telethon Tonight

Wyclef Jean will join George Clooney and CNN's Anderson Cooper in hosting MTV Networks' "Hope for Haiti," the global telethon to air commercial-free across ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT on Friday, January 22, at 8 p.m

The telethon will be hosted by Clooney in Los Angeles, Jean in New York and Cooper in Haiti. All donations will directly benefit Clinton-Bush Fund, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF and Wyclef's Yele Haiti Foundation.

The Fight For Food In Haiti

It is estimated that 1.5 million people in Haiti are now homeless. All they have are the close on their back, no food, water or medical supplies. They live on the streets, sleep on the grass and now fight with each other.

Clinton's HOPE for Haiti

Oprah.com is featuring President Bill Clinton's first hand account of his vist to Haiti this week. He is U.S Special Envoy to Haiti and has had Haiti on his mind for almost 40 years.

Clinton:"When I returned to Haiti earlier this week to deliver medical supplies, food and water, I could barely recognize the city of Port-au-Prince, a city I have visited and cherished for more than 35 years: buildings and homes leveled; people in the streets, hungry, homeless and hurt; emergency vehicles and workers rushing through the streets to bring aid to the dying; the presidential palace in ruins."

Haiti Rocked by a 6.1 Aftershock

It was about 6:00 this morning, a 6.1 after shock hit Haiti causing panic as buildings shook and people ran to the streets screaming.

This is the largest after shock since the 7.0 earthquake that hit over a week ago yesterday. The U.S. Geologic Survey said the quake was centered about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of Port-au-Prince and was 13.7 miles (22 kilometers) below the surface. It was too far inland to cause any Tsunami warning for the rest of the Caribbean.

Last week's magnitude-7 quake killed an estimated 200,000 people in Haiti; left 250,000 injured and made 1.5 million homeless. A massive international aid effort has been struggling with logistical problems, and many Haitians are still desperate for food and water.

President Clinton Arrives in Haiti

Today, President Bill Clinton arrived in Haiti just days after his wife Sec. of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton has been helping Haiti for over 20 years, through his presidency and now through the Clinton Foundation and as of Saturday through the Clinton-Bush Fund.
Clinton toured the hospital and met with Haitian ministers talk about the destruction that recently took place and also about where the money needs to go. Clinton is hoping to figure out a way to rebuild the island and get the Haitian people back on their feet.

Haiti is especially close to the Clinton's as they honeymooned there in the 70's.

Obama Taps Ex-Presidents for Haiti

President Obama today tapped former Presidents Clinton and Bush to assist in the Haitian relief efforts after this week’s horrific earthquake.

The objective is to help the Caribbean island recover, rebuild and move towards a better future. This fundraising is the same that Clinton and Bush Sr. did for the Tsunami in 2005.

Clinton, who is the US Special Envoy to Haiti has been helping the island through his Clinton Foundation and through out his presidency. Haiti is especially close to the former President and wife Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, spending a delayed honeymoon there and visiting every chance they get for the past 20 years.
President Obama hopes that Clinton and Bush can gather the American people in helping with the relief. Meanwhile, Secretary Clinton is set to arrive in Haiti today, accompanied by USAID chief Rajiv Shah. Clinton will be the first highest U.S dignitary to witness the destruction first hand. Her hopes are to speed up the recovery. Shah stated that the US has mobilized $48Million worth of food assistance, enough to feed about 2 million people for the next six months.
